Inga trängselavgifter på Manhattan
Det förslag till biltullar, för att köra in och ut i vissa områden på Manhattan, som Michael Bloomberg har föreslagit kommer inte att genomföras.
I alla fall inte i den form som debatterats de senaste 3 månaderna. Detta meddelade Michael Bloomberg idag på en presskonferens och i ett pressmeddelande:
"Although we continue to talk to the Legislature and the Governor, it’s
sad to note that after three months of working with all parties to
address their questions, the failure of the State Assembly to act in
time on a deadline imposed by the federal Government is a terrible setback for clean air and to our critical commitment to fight climate change."Anledningen till att det var så bråttom att ta ett beslut i frågan var för att kunna få implementationen av det avancerade kamerasystemet betalt med federala pengar, men detta gick alltså inte vägen.

Via Streetsblog läser jag hur Bloomberg uttalat sig efter nederlaget:
"I’m gong to be fine. I’m going to fight for New York City for the next
898 days of my administration. I’ll tell you who should feel let down:
the people breathing the air, the people trying to do business in the
city, the 95% of people who commute by transit into this city. Those
are the people who lost yesterday.New York City is poorer today because of Albany’s
inaction yesterday. Sadly, it appears that we lost a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity and demonstrated, once again, that Albany does not seem to
get it."
